The Lagos State House of Assembly, through its Public Accounts Committee (State), has begun deliberations on the 2024 Auditor-General’s report, marking a renewed push for transparency and accountability across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chairman of the Committee, Kehinde Olaide Joseph, announced the commencement of the oversight exercise during a media briefing at the Lateef Jakande Complex, stressing that the review is designed to strengthen government systems and ensure responsible governance, not to witch-hunt public officials.

Joseph reiterated that the Assembly has a constitutional responsibility to scrutinize the management of public funds and ensure that government agencies deliver value for money while adhering to laws, policies and ethical standards.
“We are committed to ensuring transparency, accountability and probity in the management of public funds and resources,” he said.
The committee also disclosed plans to summon heads of indicted MDAs to address concerns highlighted in the Auditor-General’s report, noting that full cooperation and openness are expected.
Joseph added that the review would focus on aligning spending with approved budgets, identifying systemic weaknesses, promoting effective public investment, preventing mismanagement and ensuring that governance outcomes benefit all Lagos residents.

While emphasizing that the exercise is constructive and geared toward strengthening institutions, he made it clear that violations of financial regulations will not be ignored.
He expressed appreciation to Speaker Mudashiru Obasa for his leadership and continued support, which he said has empowered the committee to effectively execute its mandate.
