EKO HOT BLOG reports that the attackers reportedly struck between 11 pm and midnight, moving from one settlement to another in what residents described as a coordinated operation across multiple communities.
A resident who spoke with Daily Trust on condition of anonymity confirmed that two men and six women were seized during the raid.
“They came as usual, and from our findings so far, two males and six females were taken away by the bandits. Up till now, there is no news on their whereabouts,” he said.
Another resident, Kabiru Usman, whose family members were among those abducted, said the gunmen entered through neighbouring Tsundu village.
“They came on foot, armed with guns. They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife, and two other women,” Usman lamented.
He added that villagers tried to resist but were overwhelmed by the attackers.
“We tried to stop them, but our weapons were no match for them as they were carrying guns,” he said.
Usman revealed that residents had alerted security agencies earlier after receiving intelligence about the attackers’ movements.
“Before the attack occurred, we got a report that they were heading towards us, and we notified the security agencies, including the police and military, ahead of time because they gave us their numbers and asked us to call if we got any information,” he stated.
Sources told Daily Trust that the gunmen also raided Sarmawa, Yan Chibi and Gano villages within the same council area.
In Yan Chibi, a resident said the attackers arrived in large numbers.
“About 50 bandits riding motorcycles came into our community, shooting in the air. We all ran for safety. Later, we discovered they had abducted some people, mostly women,” he said.
He added that more than 10 people were abducted across the affected communities.
A vigilante source confirmed that locals had earlier reported sightings of “strange faces” around the area. Attempts by community vigilantes and volunteers to pursue the gunmen failed after the attackers crossed into neighbouring Katsina State.

Fear now grips the region, following recurrent attacks in Tsanyawa and adjoining Shanono and Bagwai LGAs. The vigilante source added that many families have begun sleeping outside their homes to avoid being attacked in their sleep.
