The Ogun State Police Command has dissociated itself from a viral security advisory trending on social media and bearing the photograph of the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, describing it as deceptive, unauthorised, and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement on Wednesday, the command said it had observed a growing wave of unsolicited security messages circulating online; many of which falsely portray the state as being on the brink of crisis.

Spokesperson of the command, Omolola Odutola, clarified that the widely shared advisory featuring the CP’s image did not originate from the police and was never approved by the command.
She noted that certain individuals and groups were deliberately recycling old videos and sharing alarming content with divisive language intended to cause fear among residents. She warned perpetrators to desist from pushing false narratives.
Part of the statement reads: “One of such misleading posts currently in circulation with the picture of the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, is deceptive, unauthorized, and was made without any directive, approval, or recourse to the Command.

“It has been further observed that certain individuals and groups are recycling old videos, publishing alarming content, and using divisive language with intent to cause panic and heighten fear among residents. These mischief-makers are warned to desist from posting frightening videos, voice-overs, or unverified claims, the majority of which are false.”
The police appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring that all communities that have raised genuine concerns are under close surveillance. Odutola added that additional personnel and operational assets have been deployed to strengthen security in identified areas.
“Residents of Ogun State and stakeholders are urged to remain calm and reassured. All areas identified by well-meaning communities seeking police attention are under close surveillance, with additional deployment of police personnel and assets to enhance safety and security in affected locations,” the statement said.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and advised the public to rely solely on official communication channels for credible security information.
