Police operatives in Edo State, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, have rescued 11 passengers abducted by gunmen along the Benin–Akure Road.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the passengers were among 18 travellers kidnapped last Saturday near Obarenren village in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state while travelling in an 18-seater commercial bus.

According to reports, the gunmen fired sporadically to scare motorists before forcing the passengers into the bush.
Confirming the development, the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, SP Eno Ikoedem, said the rescue followed an intensive bush-combing operation jointly carried out by security agencies.

“The incident happened last Saturday. The passengers were travelling in an 18-seater Big Joe bus. We have been combing the bush in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, which led to the rescue of 11 victims,” she said.
Ikoedem added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the remaining passengers, noting that no arrests had been made as of the time of filing the report.
