EKO HOT BLOG reports that at the resumed plenary, presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, lawmakers unanimously voted in support of investigating allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy. The resolution called for the Chief Judge of the state to establish a panel to examine the claims.
“This voting clearly shows the decision of the House,” Amaewhule said, urging the Chief Judge to set up an investigative panel without delay.
Earlier in the day, four lawmakers who had previously withdrawn from the impeachment process held a press conference, accusing Governor Fubara of infringing the 1999 Constitution. They stated that the Assembly was left with no option but to exercise its legislative power by pursuing impeachment.
The lawmakers further alleged that the governor engaged in blackmail and lacked the trust required to address the political crisis in the state. According to them, both Fubara and his deputy have demonstrated little interest in reconciliation or dialogue, choosing instead to intimidate the Assembly into halting the impeachment process while continuing alleged acts of impunity.
“In view of these actions, the impeachment process must continue as planned,” the lawmakers declared, reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to uphold constitutional procedures.

The decision marks a critical phase in the political standoff in Rivers State, highlighting tensions between the executive and legislative arms of government. With the Chief Judge now called upon to set up a formal investigation panel, the impeachment proceedings are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
