In a strategic effort to deepen inter-agency collaboration and intensify the fight against drug-related crimes, the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ibeju-Lekki Area Command, Commander Garba Simon Kunkur, has led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the visit, which took place at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat, was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the NDLEA and the council in addressing the rising challenge of drug abuse, peddling, and trafficking within the Ibeju-Lekki axis.
The area has witnessed rapid population growth and increased economic activities, making coordinated security and social interventions imperative.
During the engagement, Commander Kunkur stressed the importance of grassroots collaboration in tackling drug-related issues, calling for enhanced community intelligence sharing and sustained local government support.
He highlighted areas such as logistics, public sensitisation campaigns, and youth-focused initiatives as critical to preventing the spread of illicit drugs.
He noted that effective control of drug abuse requires the active involvement of community leaders and local authorities, adding that the NDLEA remains committed to proactive engagement at the grassroots level.
In his response, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa warmly received the NDLEA delegation and commended the agency for its consistent efforts in protecting youths and communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote a drug-free society in Ibeju-Lekki.
“The fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility,” Olowa said. “My administration stands ready to partner with the NDLEA to protect our future generations and ensure Ibeju-Lekki remains a safe and progressive community.”
The meeting ended with a shared resolve to sustain collaboration aimed at curbing drug abuse and strengthening community safety across Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.
