She explained that the partnership builds on over 10 years of collaboration between both institutions, particularly in global surgery research and academic programmes, and reflects a growing commitment to equitable global partnerships in higher education.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the long-standing collaboration has delivered measurable outcomes, including the establishment of the Global Surgery Unit (GSU) across 37 institutions nationwide, resulting in a 15 per cent reduction in surgical site infections, findings that have been adopted into policy by the Federal Ministry of Health.
She noted that the partnership has also supported postgraduate training, mentoring over 120 UNILAG students and more than 1,000 students nationwide, while contributing to internationally recognised research outputs, including a publication that set a Guinness World Record for the highest number of authors.
Professor Ogunsola said the new Transnational Education (TNE) framework will provide Nigerian students with accessible, internationally competitive academic programmes, allowing them to gain global exposure while remaining grounded in local realities.
“This partnership offers a refreshing structure for students seeking to advance their education across national and global contexts,” she said, adding that it strengthens UNILAG’s mission to produce graduates who are globally competent and socially responsive.
She stressed that the agreement aligns with UNILAG’s broader vision of partnerships built on mutual respect, co-creation, and shared responsibility, and will expand opportunities for experiential learning through equitable engagement between both institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor described the MoU as a significant step toward enhancing global visibility, modernising curricula, and strengthening research capacity in priority areas such as artificial intelligence, health sciences, and engineering.
She expressed optimism that the collaboration would contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Nigeria’s higher education landscape and reaffirmed UNILAG’s commitment to delivering world-class education through responsible global partnerships.
