The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 40 year old woman, Nafisat Lateef, over the alleged poisoning of a three year old boy in Omifon community, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh. He said the victim is the son of the suspect’s tenant.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday following a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat.
Jimoh said the suspect allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous after the disagreement.
“The incident occurred on Tuesday, 4th February 2026, at about 8:30 am, when the suspect allegedly gave the victim, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.
“The act was reportedly carried out following a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect, who is the complainant’s landlady,” he said.
The police spokesperson explained that the child began vomiting shortly after ingesting the substance and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention,” Jimoh added.
He disclosed that detectives from the command carried out a swift and intelligence led operation which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
Jimoh further stated that the liquid substance suspected to be poison was recovered during the investigation.

“The police detectives, during a swift and intelligence led operation, arrested the suspect. The suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements,” he noted.
The police said a full investigation has commenced and assured that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
