The Lagos State Government has prosecuted 17 people for violating environmental laws by urinating and defecating in public areas.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development on his official X account on Thursday, noting that the offenders were brought before the Magistrate Court at Bolade, Oshodi.

According to Wahab, “Seventeen individuals apprehended by Lawma_gov operatives were arraigned today at the Magistrate Court, Bolade, Oshodi, for urinating and defecating in public places.

The court found them guilty and sentenced each person to a fine of N40,000 or one month in prison.”
The commissioner also reminded Lagos residents that open urination and defecation are serious environmental offenses that pose public health risks.

“Let this act as a reminder that such behaviors are illegal and harmful to public health. Lagos State will continue to enforce sanitation laws to protect residents, uphold human dignity, and maintain order in our communities,” Wahab stated.
He urged citizens to use available public sanitation facilities and comply with environmental regulations, emphasizing that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
