The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has urged all taxable residents in Lagos to file their annual tax returns on or before March 31, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, said the filing requirement applies to self-employed individuals, business owners, professionals, workers in the informal sector, and employees under the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) scheme.

According to Subair, the directive aligns with Section 24(f) of the 1999 Constitution and relevant provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. He explained that all taxable individuals must submit a truthful declaration of their total income earned between January 1 and December 31, 2025, within the first 90 days of the new year.
“Filing of annual tax returns is not optional. It is a legal requirement,” Subair stated. “We encourage all Lagos residents earning taxable income to file early and accurately.”
He noted that early compliance helps the government plan effectively, monitor revenue trends, and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability for the state.
The LIRS boss warned that failure to meet the March 31 deadline would attract administrative penalties, interest charges, and other legal consequences as stipulated by law.

He added that taxpayers are expected to submit their returns electronically through the LIRS eTax portal, which allows users to register, file returns, upload supporting documents, and manage their tax profiles securely.
Subair reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding digital tax administration and improving taxpayer support services across the state.
