- Garbadeen Foundation lecture highlights shared values of Ramadan and Lent.
- Speakers emphasize sacrifice, charity, and accountability before God.
- Event promotes unity and moral renewal across faith lines.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Annual Ramadan Lecture and Iftar organized by the Taibat Garbadeen Foodbank Foundation took on deeper significance this year as speakers reflected not only on the essence of Ramadan but also on the spiritual lessons shared with the ongoing Lenten season.
Held in Epe, the gathering became a platform for reinforcing shared values between Muslims and Christians, sacrifice, repentance, charity, and accountability before God.
The Guest Lecturer, Sheikh Daud Al-Aruudy, emphasized that both seasons remind humanity of life after death and the reality of divine judgment.
He noted that true fasting goes beyond abstaining from food, stressing that “the reward awaiting every individual after death is determined by their deeds while on earth.”
His message resonated strongly as he referenced the enduring charitable legacy of the late matriarch, stating that “her good works continue to speak even after her death.”
Speakers at the event highlighted that Ramadan and Lent are parallel journeys of spiritual purification. While Muslims fast from dawn to sunset seeking closeness to Allah, Christians observe Lent through fasting, prayer, and reflection in preparation for Easter.
In both faiths, the emphasis remains on repentance, self-control, and generosity toward the less privileged.
Hon. Olabode Garbadeen reflected on his mother’s lifelong sacrifice, describing her as a woman who gave selflessly and supported others quietly.
He explained that her life embodies the very principles both Ramadan and Lent teach, sacrifice, compassion, and unwavering faith.
He stated that “Ramadan is a period to retract one’s steps and change for the better,” urging adherents of both religions to use this sacred overlap to love one another and strengthen community bonds.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Saliu, also underscored the spiritual harmony between the seasons, noting that gatherings like this “nourish the soul and help people retrace their steps to walk in the path that pleases God.”
He encouraged Christians and Muslims alike to take advantage of both Ramadan and Lent as opportunities for transformation.
Participants described the event as more than an Iftar session, it was a reminder that faith traditions, though distinct, often converge on the same moral foundation: devotion to God, service to humanity, and preparation for eternal accountability.
As prayers were offered and the fast was broken, the message was clear, Ramadan and Lent together call believers to deeper reflection, greater compassion, and a renewed commitment to righteous living.
