Eko Hot Blog reports that the spiritual gathering brought together Islamic scholars, community leaders, political figures, and residents who assembled to offer prayers and reflect on the role of families, youths, and community leaders in promoting community development from an Islamic perspective.
The lecture, titled “The Impact of the Family, Youths, and Community Leaders Towards the Growth and Development of Their Community: Islamic Perspective,” was delivered by Nosiru Olajide Onibon, Associate Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).
In his lecture, the scholar emphasized the importance of protecting those under one’s care, particularly the responsibility of parents toward their children.
He expressed concern over the growing influence of mobile phones and social media in many homes, warning that excessive use has weakened family bonds and parental authority.
“Parents must take back their homes. Today, social media has taken over many families, and children are no longer receiving proper guidance. Parents must pay attention to their children and lead them with good values and discipline,” he said.
Speaking on the role of youths, the lecturer cautioned against greed and the growing desire among many young people for quick wealth.
He noted that such attitudes often push some youths into negative activities such as internet fraud, dishonesty, and other unethical means of making money.
“Youths must understand that success comes through patience, hard work, and integrity. The desire for quick wealth has destroyed many promising futures. Young people must avoid greed and remain focused on building a good and honourable life,” he advised.
Addressing community leaders and residents, the guest lecturer urged them to go beyond merely reciting the Holy Qur’an by striving to understand and practice its teachings.
“It is not enough to read the Holy Qur’an alone. We must digest it, meditate on its meaning, and allow its teachings to guide our daily actions and decisions,” he said.
He also encouraged communities to protect government projects and public infrastructure, stressing that safeguarding development within communities is a shared responsibility.
“Whenever government brings development into a community, everyone must take ownership of it. When we allow public facilities to be destroyed or neglected, we are setting our community and our nation backward,” he added.
The event attracted several Islamic scholars, community leaders, and political dignitaries, including Wale Raji, Member of the House of Representatives of Nigeria representing Epe Federal Constituency; Hon. Saliu Adeniyi; the Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Wale Raji Anomo, alongside members of his cabinet; as well as the Chairman of Eredo LCDA and members of his cabinet.
In their goodwill messages, Wale Raji and Chairman Anomo commended the Olulade family for sustaining the legacy of their late parents through the Ramadan lecture and prayers.
They also emphasized the importance of unity, moral discipline, and community responsibility in promoting sustainable development across communities in Epe Division.
The programme concluded with prayers for the late Chief Sufian Olulade and Late Chief (Mrs.) Fatima Olulade, as well as prayers for peace, progress, and continued development in the community.
