The governor’s address was marked by a call for absolute loyalty, as he noted that “the era of rancour and disloyalty” must end to ensure the welfare of Kano residents.
This administrative tightening comes on the heels of a significant political realignment.
Governor Yusuf explained that after extensive consultations with lawmakers, local government chairmen, and other key political figures, it was determined that aligning with the APC was in the best interest of the state to secure much-needed support from the central government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This move has not been without its casualties. The governor confirmed that five commissioners chose to resign their positions as a result of the realignment.
While their departures were accepted, Yusuf quickly moved to stabilize his team and the civil service.
He appointed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota as the acting Head of Service, charging her with the responsibility of strengthening professionalism and unity within the state’s workforce.

Beyond the political reshuffling, the governor highlighted several ongoing welfare programs, including the establishment of 150 Ramadan feeding centers for vulnerable citizens and the distribution of motorcycles to social media influencers to aid in information dissemination.
He also expressed gratitude to the federal government and the Progressive Governors Forum for their assistance following the devastating fire at Singer Market, which resulted in billions of naira in losses for local traders.
As the state transitions into this new political era, Governor Yusuf also extended his congratulations to the new APC leadership in the state, including the state chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, and recent by-election winners.
The governor’s message was clear: for Kano to thrive, the government must operate with transparency to the public but maintain strict confidentiality and discipline within its inner circles.
