The Ogun State Government has announced plans to relocate illegal motor parks and stop street trading around Sango Tollgate in a bid to reduce the frequent road accidents recorded in the area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the decision was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, during an inspection visit to the location alongside officials from the state Ministry of Environment, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) and representatives of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

Oresanya said the move followed growing concerns by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, over the increasing number of fatal accidents at the busy border area between Ogun and Lagos State.
According to the commissioner, the government decided to relocate the illegal motor park and remove traders who have operated in the area for more than two decades.
“After reviewing the situation with relevant stakeholders, the government has resolved to relocate the illegal motor park and end street trading that has existed here for about 25 years to more organised locations away from the tollgate,” he said.
To prevent buses and traders from returning to the area, Oresanya explained that the state government, in collaboration with the local government, would construct barricades on both sides of the tollgate.
He added that a major clean-up exercise would also be carried out at the site, while environmental marshals would be deployed to ensure that the new directive is strictly followed.
The commissioner said the relocation and enforcement exercise would begin in the coming days.

The move comes after a series of deadly accidents at the location. In one recent incident reported last week along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway near the Sango-Ota tollgate, at least three people lost their lives while six others were injured.
A similar accident occurred the previous month when a tanker reportedly lost control after brake failure, killing seven people.
Authorities say the new measures are aimed at improving safety and preventing further loss of lives along the busy highway.
