The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has called on Nigerian women to take a more active role in politics and leadership in order to shape national conversations and contribute to the country’s development.
Eko Hot Blog reports on Dabiri-Erewa made the call while delivering a keynote address at the 2026 International Women’s Day event organised by Zenith Bank at the Civic Centre in Lagos.

Speaking on the theme “Take It, You Own It,” she encouraged women to support one another and work together to strengthen their influence in governance and national development.
According to her, unity and collaboration among women are essential for amplifying their voices in leadership and decision making across the country.
Dabiri-Erewa also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as inclusive leadership through the appointment and election of women into key positions in government.
She further praised the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for initiatives focused on improving the welfare of women and children nationwide.

In her remarks, the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Adaora Umeoji, urged women to remain bold, committed and visionary in pursuing their personal and professional goals.
Umeoji explained that the bank’s International Women’s Day seminar is an annual programme designed to inspire and empower women both within and outside Nigeria.
She added that the event provides a platform for leadership development, professional growth and meaningful conversations on issues affecting women, while also promoting empowerment, social impact and inclusive economic participation.
