Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspect in connection with the killing of an elderly woman, identified as Veronica Anthony, in Iboropa-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspect, identified as Anthony Alabi, was reportedly apprehended after police tracked the phone belonging to the deceased, which played a key role in unraveling the case.

According to the spokesperson of the Command, Jimoh Abayomi, detectives acted on credible intelligence, launching an investigation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
“Following credible intelligence, detectives promptly launched an investigation, which led to the tracking of the deceased’s missing phone and the subsequent arrest of the suspect,” he said.
Sources said the incident sparked tension in the community, with angry youths reportedly attempting to take the law into their own hands before security operatives intervened to prevent mob action.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and has made a confession, while the case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.
Authorities have assured residents that justice will be pursued through due process, while urging members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could undermine the rule of law.
