- Tax Deadline Shifted as LIRS Announces Two-Week Extension

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for filing individual annual tax returns by two weeks, moving it from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released on Monday, the agency’s Executive Chairman, Ayodele Subair, explained that the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers more time to complete and submit accurate returns.

He noted that while March 31 remains the official deadline each year, the additional window is meant to ease the process and encourage full compliance.
Subair urged residents to make timely tax filing a regular habit, stressing the importance of meeting tax obligations.
He also reiterated that all submissions must be done electronically through the LIRS eTax platform, as manual filing has been completely phased out.
According to him, the platform is secure, easy to use, and available round the clock, allowing taxpayers to file their returns at their convenience.

He further advised individuals to ensure their Tax Identification Number (TaxID) is correctly entered to avoid errors during submission.
