The process included nationwide public voting, assessment by an independent jury, and final review by the editorial board.
The award recognises leadership, innovation, and measurable impact in public service delivery.

In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Education said the recognition reflects ongoing reforms in the education sector under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which focuses on expanding access, improving quality, and strengthening equity in education.
According to the ministry, one of the key reform areas is the revitalisation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), aimed at equipping students with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
The ministry also highlighted ongoing investments in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM), including rehabilitation of medical schools and engineering faculties in federal universities across the country. These interventions are designed to improve training for professionals in critical sectors such as health and engineering.
Other initiatives include the Student Venture Capital Grant, which supports student innovations, and the Diaspora Bridge programme, which connects Nigerian academics and professionals abroad with local institutions to boost research and development.
Efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children have also been intensified, with increased focus on access to education in underserved communities. The ministry also noted continued support for girls’ education through scholarships, mentorship programmes, and improved learning environments.

Digital transformation is another key component of the reforms, with the introduction of the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure system to improve planning, monitoring, and accountability across schools nationwide.
Teachers, the ministry said, remain central to the reforms, with ongoing investments in training, welfare, and modern teaching tools, alongside infrastructure upgrades in schools across the country.
Reacting to the award, Dr. Alausa expressed appreciation to Nigerians and the organisers, describing the recognition as a reflection of collective efforts to reform the education sector.

He said the honour would further motivate the ministry to accelerate ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger, skills-driven, and future-ready education system capable of supporting national development and economic growth.
