The Community Development Committee (CDC) of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government has successfully organized a one-day retreat aimed at reinforcing the role of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in modern governance.

community leaders, and government representatives to deliberate on enhancing grassroots participation and strengthening community-driven development.
Representing the Executive Chairman, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, the Secretary to the Local Government, Adewale Adebanjo, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and collaboration with community structures.
“Our administration remains committed to inclusive governance. CDAs play a vital role in bridging the gap between government and the grassroots,” he stated.
“We urge all participants to speak with one voice, learn from this engagement, and come out with fruitful deliberations that will benefit our communities.”
Declaring the retreat open, the Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services, Olusola Edalere, commended the organizers and encouraged participants to engage actively.
“I appreciate the efforts of the organizers and encourage all participants to pay rapt attention to the discussions for maximum benefit,” he said.
The event featured insightful lectures from seasoned resource persons, including Rotimi Owolawi, a financial analyst, and Muhibah Balogun, who delivered presentations on accountability, community mobilization, conflict resolution, and active citizen participation in governance.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions that emphasized the need for CDAs to remain proactive, transparent, and aligned with government policies to achieve sustainable development at the grassroots level.
The resource persons also encouraged CDA leaders to embrace unity, effective communication, and collaboration with local authorities in order to drive meaningful progress within their communities.
Speaking at the event, the CDC Chairman, Adeboye Jabita, expressed appreciation to the local government for its continued support and reiterated the committee’s commitment to empowering CDAs.
“We appreciate the Local Government for its unwavering support. We remain dedicated to strengthening CDAs through capacity-building initiatives like this retreat,” he said.
The retreat concluded on a high note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to playing active roles in governance and contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of their respective communities.
Also in attendance were supervisors and executive committee members of the CDC, further highlighting the importance of the engagement in fostering collaboration and effective grassroots governance.
