Angry but determined, the students marched through the area carrying placards with messages like “Give Us Security,” as they demanded urgent action to protect their lives and property.
However, the peaceful protest turned chaotic when suspected thugs attacked the students with cutlasses, bottles and other dangerous objects, leaving several of them injured.
A resident, who spoke anonymously, described the situation as alarming.
“Armed robbers invaded a student hostel in the downtown area of Ibogun, carting away phones, money, laptops and even a Lexus car. In the process, two students were seriously injured,” the source said.
“In response, students took to the streets in a peaceful protest, but shockingly, they were attacked by area thugs. Several students were injured again during the protest.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said an investigation had commenced.
He added that the Divisional Police Officer in Ibogun and the Area Commander had been deployed to the scene to restore calm and assess the situation.
Babaseyi also appealed to students to remain calm, assuring that security measures were being strengthened to address the situation.
