The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered a criminal hideout in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, where illicit drugs were reportedly being distributed and other unlawful activities carried out.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the command also confirmed the arrest of a suspected gang member accused of terrorising residents of Michael Abraham Street in the Nkemba area of Uyo.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence.
According to the police, the suspects arrested include Ofonime Tom, described as a member of a notorious gang operating around Michael Abraham Street, Nkemba, Ikot Ebido Oku and nearby areas.
Others apprehended during the raid in Ibesikpo Asutan include Sunday Benedict Asuquo, Abdulkarim Umaru, Yahaya Muhammad and Sherif Baworo.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, the sum of N28,000 in cash, multiple mobile phones, a lighter, two kitchen knives, two pairs of scissors and a black bag.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the location served as a hub for illicit drug distribution and other criminal activities within the community.
The police said all suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the criminal network and recover additional exhibits linked to their operations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for criminal activities, stating that ongoing operations are part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal syndicates and enhance public safety.
