The Independent National Electoral Commission has updated its official records to recognise David Mark as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress.
The electoral body also listed Rauf Aregbesola as the party’s National Secretary, alongside Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed as National Treasurer and Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the update, reflected on INEC’s website, followed a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday, which addressed the leadership crisis within the ADC.
The dispute had stemmed from INEC’s earlier refusal to recognise some claimants to leadership positions in the party, citing conflicting court decisions and ongoing litigation. The commission had previously removed the names of Mark and Aregbesola from its portal, relying on a judgment of the Court of Appeal and an order directing parties to maintain the status quo.
However, the Supreme Court vacated the order mandating the status quo, ruling that the Court of Appeal acted beyond its jurisdiction.
Delivering a unanimous decision, a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba held that issuing such an order after dismissing the appeal was improper.
“Giving such an order in an appeal it had already dismissed was unnecessary, unwarranted and improper,” the court ruled.
The apex court held that the appeal filed by David Mark succeeded in part but dismissed aspects challenging an earlier ex parte order of the Federal High Court relating to service of court processes.
It subsequently directed all parties involved in the dispute to return to the trial court for continuation of the case.
INEC’s latest update signals a shift in recognition following the Supreme Court’s intervention, as the legal battle over the party’s leadership continues.
