The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old woman, Maryam Usman, for allegedly setting her co-wife’s room on fire in the Mangwarori Quarters area of Mariri, Kano State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after the police received a distress call around 12:40am.

Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna, said the suspect allegedly set ablaze the room occupied by her co-wife, identified as Firdausi Saminu.
According to the police, the fire left four persons with varying degrees of burns, including Firdausi Saminu, her husband Saminu Miko, and two children, Isma’il Saminu, 3, and Khadija Saminu, 5.
The victims were reportedly rushed to Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Haruna stated that police patrol teams swiftly responded to the scene following the report and arrested the suspect, who is now being held at the Mariri Police Division.
He added that some exhibits were recovered from the scene as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The suspect is in custody while investigation into the alleged arson and attempted culpable homicide is ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.
