The Federal Government has urged media organisations, public institutions and other stakeholders to ensure the accurate use of President Bola Tinubu’s official title in all publications and official communications.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the call was made in a statement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, following what the government described as repeated errors in the way the President’s appellation is presented by some organisations and media outlets.

According to Akume, the correct official designation of the President is: “His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The SGF explained that the clarification became necessary after an error was reportedly observed in a publication by a national newspaper on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.
He described such mistakes as avoidable and urged journalists, editors and institutions to verify official titles before publication to prevent unnecessary errors.
Akume also advised organisations seeking confirmation of official titles and government information to make use of verified communication channels operated by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The statement listed the office’s official social media platforms and email channels for enquiries and verification purposes.
