According t the agency, the decision followed growing complaints from commuters and operational challenges caused by the increasing use of public buses for carrying bulky goods and cargo.
LAMATA explained that the practice had continued to affect passenger comfort, safety and the smooth operation of the state’s transport system.
The authority stated that the decision was reached after a strategic meeting involving officials of the agency and heads of operations and maintenance of bus operating companies.
Stakeholders at the meeting reportedly agreed that the use of regulated buses for transporting goods should be stopped and properly reorganised.
The agency said the new measure is aimed at creating a safer, more efficient and commuter-friendly transport system across the state.

LAMATA warned that enforcement of the directive would be strict, adding that any driver caught conveying goods during the suspension period would be immediately dismissed and blacklisted.
The authority also stated that any terminal official, ground staff or LAMATA personnel found assisting or permitting the loading of goods onto regulated buses would face immediate dismissal.
The statement stressed that the state government would maintain zero tolerance for violations as part of efforts to restore order, safety and efficiency within the public transportation network.
Residents, commuters and transport operators were advised to make alternative arrangements for moving goods and heavy items ahead of the enforcement date.
LAMATA reaffirmed its commitment to providing Lagos residents with a safe, reliable and efficient public transportation system.
