The Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board has said it issued more than 2,000 filming permits to filmmakers and production companies within the last one year, reinforcing Lagos State’s position as Nigeria’s leading film production hub.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, disclosed this on Wednesday in Lagos during the ongoing annual ministerial press briefing marking the seventh year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.

She said the permits covered feature films, documentaries, short films, and commercial productions carried out within Lagos State.

According to her, the rise in film permits reflects the rapid expansion of the state’s creative economy and Lagos’ growing appeal to filmmakers across Africa.
Benson-Awoyinka also revealed that over 10,000 young creatives have been trained through collaborations with various creative academies, including Del-York Creative Academy, EbonyLife Creative Academy, GIDI Creative Academy, and the African Film Academy.
She explained that the training programmes were designed to equip emerging talents with industry-standard skills needed to compete globally.
The Commissioner further stated that the government remains committed to strengthening intellectual property protection and tackling piracy, which Governor Sanwo-Olu previously highlighted as a major challenge facing Nollywood at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.

She added that the LSFVCB has also partnered with several film festivals and creative organisations, including the Badagry International Film Festival, Lagos International Festival of Animation, and Silverbird Film Distribution.
