A major step toward improving local commerce and market accessibility was recorded in Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) as officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture inspected the proposed Agro Food Hub site at Otolu Modern Market.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the inspection visit brought together government representatives, community stakeholders, and market leaders, all united in advancing a project aimed at boosting food distribution and economic activities within the area.

Representing the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Abisola Olusanya, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Fatai Audu, led the delegation, while the Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, was represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Dr. Bukola Lawal.
During the visit, the proposed site was presented to the delegation, drawing commendation from the Permanent Secretary, who expressed satisfaction with both the location and the level of community engagement.
“We are impressed with what we have seen here today. The turnout of stakeholders shows strong community support, and the State Government remains committed to delivering a befitting agro food hub as seen in other parts of Lagos,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman, Dr. Bukola Lawal reaffirmed the council’s determination to ensure the successful execution of the project.
“This project is very important to us because it will enhance local commerce, support our traders, and contribute to the overall development of the community. We are fully committed to seeing it through,” she stated.
Also speaking, the Supervisor for Agriculture, Hon. Adeleke Olabanjo, highlighted the enthusiasm among market women, noting that the project would significantly ease trading challenges.
“Our market women are excited about this initiative. It will reduce the stress of traveling long distances to buy and sell goods, and bring economic relief closer to the people,” he said.
The engagement also featured contributions from key stakeholders, including the Iyaloja General of Lekki LCDA, the Iyalaje of Ise Land, the Seriki of the Hausa Community, youth representatives, and other community leaders, all of whom expressed strong support for the project.
“This is not just about a market; it is about creating opportunities, improving livelihoods, and strengthening our local economy,” a stakeholder remarked.
The proposed Agro Food Hub is expected to enhance food supply systems, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth within Lekki LCDA and surrounding communities.
