According to him, armed hoodlums invaded the Funture area of Rugar Buda Village through the Nahuce District in Bungudu Emirate around 12:30 a.m., firing sporadically in an attempt to create panic among residents.
Abubakar said police operatives, alongside other security personnel stationed in the area, swiftly responded to the attack and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
He explained that two suspected bandits were neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while several others escaped into nearby forests with possible gunshot wounds.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that a vigilante member identified as Kabiru Auwal sustained a gunshot injury to his left hand during the operation and is currently receiving treatment.
He added that patrol and confidence-building operations had been intensified across affected communities to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.

In another operation, the police said operatives of the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit, in collaboration with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear team, discovered and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device along the Bilbis–Kuncin Kalgo Road.
According to Abubakar, the pressure-plate explosive device, suspected to have been planted by terrorists, was detected around the Hayin Kagana–Kuncin Kalgo axis.
He stated that the explosive was professionally evacuated and destroyed in line with standard safety procedures without any casualties.
The police said the operation successfully rendered the area safe for public use.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the operatives for their professionalism and assured residents of sustained efforts to tackle insecurity across Zamfara.
