Speaking before the governors, the President expressed appreciation to political allies and party leaders who stood by him throughout his presidential ambition, despite the difficulties and uncertainties surrounding the process.
According to him, the road to the presidency was filled with obstacles that tested the resolve of both himself and his supporters.
“Instead of dodging the bullet, I took it. I took a punch in the chin, a very hard one,” Tinubu said while recalling the political battles he faced during the period.
He noted that those who joined him on the journey also endured significant challenges and risks, but remained committed to the cause.
“We stuck together at the time I faced the challenge of trying to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was very challenging. It was tough for those who were with me. Some kept faith,” he stated.
The President further disclosed that he kept many of his plans private while pursuing his ambition, even as key stakeholders continued to support him based on their belief in the ruling party and its vision.

“I decided to take the effort to campaign. I didn’t disclose to anybody what I would do. Many of you took the risk and went ahead with me because of the party platform and everything,” he added.
Tinubu’s remarks formed part of discussions during the Sallah visit by governors, where issues of governance, development and national progress were also highlighted.
