The Lagos State Government has arrested 45 suspected street beggars, including adults and minors, during coordinated enforcement operations across different parts of the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Wednesday via his official social media account.

According to Wahab, enforcement officers apprehended 22 individuals during a raid carried out in the Oshodi and Agege areas. Those arrested included adults and several teenagers allegedly engaged in street begging activities.
In a separate operation conducted at CMS, authorities arrested 23 persons, comprising 14 adults and nine children.
Wahab stated that the exercise forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation, maintain public order and address activities considered harmful to the urban landscape.
He added that similar clearance operations are currently being carried out in other parts of the state, including Admiralty Way in Lekki and Addo Road in Ajah.
The latest arrests come amid an intensified enforcement campaign by the Lagos State Government against environmental infractions and public nuisance activities.

The commissioner had earlier disclosed that 10,634 offenders were arrested across the state within the past year for various violations.
According to government records, 5,715 individuals were apprehended for illegally crossing highways, while 3,886 others were arrested for offences including street trading, environmental violations and cart-pushing.
Authorities also arrested 102 persons for open defecation and 931 others for various waste management-related offences during the same period.
The state government has maintained that the enforcement exercises are aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer and more orderly environment for residents.
