The Presidency has confirmed the arrest of a man, Ifechukwu Dennis, over allegations that he created and circulated a counterfeit audio recording made to sound like President Bola Tinubu.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the announcement was made on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the suspect was picked up by a special unit of the Inspector-General of Police in Benin City.
Eko Onanuga explained that the suspect allegedly produced the manipulated voice clip and shared it with members of the public as though it were an official message from the President.

He said, “The IGP special team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, who generated a fake audio and presented it as President Tinubu’s voice to mislead people. He was arrested in Benin. An official police statement will follow.”
He also disclosed that another individual has been arrested for posting what he described as a false security alert concerning Abuja, which created unnecessary fear among residents.
According to him, the arrests demonstrate that authorities are stepping up action against the spread of misinformation and harmful content on social media.

“The police have also arrested another person who circulated an alarming and false security report about Abuja, causing panic among citizens. This is a warning that irresponsible online behaviour will have consequences,” he added.
The Presidency had earlier cautioned against the circulation of manipulated digital content, stressing that false narratives targeting the President or national security could attract prosecution.
