In a decisive move to strengthen security and safeguard lives and property across Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Executive Chairman, Hon. Wale Raji-Anomo, on Thursday, June 18, 2026, convened a high-level stakeholders’ security meeting where far-reaching measures were unveiled to enhance peace and security within the council area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the security summit, held at the Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Secretariat, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, market men and women, youth groups, security agencies, and representatives of various ethnic communities.
As part of the initiative, the council chairman distributed walkie-talkies and patrol motorcycles to security operatives and unveiled a dedicated toll-free emergency line to enable residents report suspicious activities, security threats, and emergencies promptly.
The meeting was attended by prominent traditional rulers, including the Elejinrin of Ejinrin Kingdom, HRM Oba Babatunde Rafiu Balogun, and the Alayandelu of Odo Ayandelu Kingdom, HRM Oba (Bldr.) Aderibigbe Asunmo, alongside chiefs, leaders of the Arewa and Igbo communities, representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Gbalule Security Outfit, Nigerian Hunters, and other local security stakeholders.
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Raji-Anomo emphasized that although Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA had not recorded any major security breach, his administration would not wait for criminal activities to occur before taking preventive action.
According to him, the security meeting was convened to proactively address the growing security concerns across the country and strengthen the council’s preparedness against potential threats.
“As a responsible government, we cannot fold our arms and wait until insecurity finds its way into our communities. We must continue to take proactive steps to protect our people and their properties. Security is everyone’s responsibility, and together we must build a strong and effective security network across the council,” he said.
To improve communication among security personnel, the chairman announced the distribution of walkie-talkies to local security operatives and traditional rulers. Each royal father is expected to receive communication devices to facilitate rapid information sharing and coordination with security agencies.
In addition, ten motorcycles were distributed to security formations to boost surveillance and patrol operations across the council area. The Ketu and Agbowa Police Divisions received one motorcycle each, while the remaining motorcycles were allocated to local security outfits operating within the LCDA.
Hon. Raji-Anomo disclosed that the council would consider providing operational vehicles in the future if the motorcycles are effectively utilized for security duties.
The chairman also unveiled a toll-free emergency line through which residents can immediately alert security agencies to suspicious movements, criminal activities, or security threats within their communities.
As part of the resolutions reached during the meeting, the council formally restricted the operation of commercial motorcycles (Okada) to between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. Hon. Raji-Anomo stressed that violators would face prosecution, noting that the restriction is backed by existing council by-laws aimed at enhancing public safety.
Addressing the issue of electricity supply, the chairman reiterated that stable power remains crucial to effective security operations. He revealed that the three council chairmen in Epe Division—Hon. Wale Raji-Anomo of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Akinloye of Eredo LCDA, and Hon. Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun of Epe Local Government—have renewed efforts to restore electricity through a partnership facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Energy.
According to him, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with a private company responsible for protecting electricity infrastructure and preventing vandalism of power facilities across the division.
The chairman further announced the restructuring of the Gbalule Security Outfit as part of broader efforts to strengthen grassroots security. Under the new arrangement, every traditional ruler and the Regent of Ketu will nominate a six-man community security squad, whose leaders will be integrated into the Gbalule Security network.
He assured stakeholders that his administration would be responsible for the payment of monthly stipends to members of the community security squads and personnel of the Gbalule Security Outfit.
In their remarks, the Elejinrin of Ejinrin Kingdom, Oba Babatunde Rafiu Balogun, and the Alayandelu of Odo Ayandelu Kingdom, Oba Aderibigbe Asunmo, commended Hon. Raji-Anomo for his visionary leadership and proactive approach to security and development.
The monarchs praised the council chairman’s commitment to protecting residents and urged members of the public to support government efforts by cooperating with security agencies and community leaders.
Representatives of the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, NSCDC, LNSC, and local security organizations also offered security tips and sensitization messages. They specifically cautioned residents, particularly youths, against jungle justice and ethnic profiling.
The security officials advised residents not to label every Fulani or Northerner as a criminal or bandit, stressing that security concerns should always be reported to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation and action.
The meeting concluded with the commissioning and distribution of the security equipment and patrol motorcycles, marking another milestone in the council’s ongoing efforts to ensure a safer and more secure Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA.
