The Osun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected hoodlums following the killing of a 14-year-old boy, identified as Ezekiel Olapade, during a shooting incident near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.

According to the Command, operatives have commenced investigations and intensified efforts to apprehend the prime suspect, identified as Saheed, popularly known as Tanfeani, alongside other suspected accomplices linked to the attack.
“The incident happened near the entrance of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu. One Saheed, also known as Tanfeani, reportedly arrived with other hoodlums and began shooting. In the process, a bullet struck Ezekiel Olapade, aged 14, who died at the scene,” Ojelabi stated.
Police said another victim, whose identity had yet to be confirmed, sustained gunshot injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the gunmen had gathered near the council secretariat and were attempting to gain access to the premises when they spotted a man wearing a cap bearing the colours of a political party at a nearby palm wine joint.

The relaxation spot, located opposite the secretariat and reportedly owned by the deceased’s mother, had several patrons present when the attackers moved towards the area.
A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said the assailants fired indiscriminately, causing people at the scene to flee in different directions.
“We were all relaxing there when the armed men approached. Everyone started running for safety. The boy who died was likely not their target. They fired in our direction, and in the confusion, Ezekiel was hit by a bullet and died instantly,” the witness said.
The resident further claimed that the injured victim was the individual wearing the political party-coloured cap.
The police confirmed that the suspects remain at large and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to arrest those responsible and bring them to justice.
