- Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye has warned residents against illegal refuse dumping across Eredo LCDA.
- The council has introduced street-to-street refuse collection through waste compactor trucks to improve waste management.
- Residents who dump refuse at unauthorized locations risk arrest and fines under Lagos State environmental laws.
The Executive Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, has warned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians, roadsides, and expressways, saying offenders will face sanctions in accordance with the environmental laws of Lagos State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chairman gave the warning as the council intensified efforts to improve environmental sanitation through the introduction of a street-to-street refuse collection system across communities in Eredo LCDA.
According to Akinloye, the deployment of waste compactor trucks to collect refuse directly from residents is aimed at promoting proper waste management and eliminating the practice of dumping waste in unauthorized locations.
“To ensure effective waste disposal, the Council’s compactor trucks are now moving from street to street to collect refuse from residents. There is therefore no justification for dumping waste on roadsides, medians, expressways, or any other unauthorized location,” he said.
He urged residents to cooperate with the council by properly packaging their waste and waiting for the designated compactor trucks to arrive for collection.
The Chairman stressed that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective efforts of both the government and the people, adding that environmental cleanliness remains essential to protecting public health and enhancing the overall wellbeing of residents.
“Anyone found violating this directive will be apprehended and made to face the appropriate sanctions, including the payment of fines as stipulated under the environmental laws and regulations of Lagos State,” Akinloye warned.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment, while appealing to residents to embrace responsible waste disposal practices.
“Keeping Eredo clean is a shared responsibility. Together, we can build a safer, healthier, and more beautiful environment for everyone,” the Chairman added.
