- How One Of My ‘Daughters’ Was Killed During Morning Evangelism – Adeboye
- He said the church rejected calls to retaliate after the attack.
- Adeboye urged Christians to choose peace over revenge.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has recounted the killing of one of the church’s pastors in Northern Nigeria, saying Christians must resist the temptation to seek revenge despite repeated attacks and painful losses.
Adeboye made the remarks during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, where he responded to criticism that he had remained silent over attacks on Christians in parts of Northern Nigeria.
The respected cleric said such claims failed to acknowledge the pain, sacrifices and losses suffered by churches under his leadership over the years.
According to him, one of the church’s female pastors was killed while carrying out an early morning evangelism exercise in Northern Nigeria.
He explained that the pastor was preaching the message of Christ’s love near a mosque when she was attacked and killed.
Adeboye said those responsible for the killing were never brought to justice, adding that the police failed to conduct a proper investigation or take meaningful action over the incident.
The RCCG General Overseer disclosed that following the pastor’s death, some younger Christians urged the church to retaliate because they believed the authorities had failed to protect innocent lives.
However, he said he firmly rejected the idea, insisting that revenge would only fuel religious tensions and further divide the country.
Adeboye said, “One of my daughters, a pastor in the north was killed during early morning evangelism in the North. She was preaching that Jesus loves you when she was attacked. The incident was known, but there was no proper action taken. Some young Christians wanted retaliation, but I refused it. I will not allow a spiritual conflict to rise from this. We chose not to respond with revenge despite the pain.”

He maintained that the church chose the path of restraint, despite the grief and frustration surrounding the incident, in the interest of preserving peace and preventing a wider religious conflict.
