- ADC said the Appeal Court ruling will not affect its 2027 candidates
- The party has begun the process of appealing the judgment at the Supreme Court
- ADC urged members to remain calm as preparations for the 2027 elections continue
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has insisted that the recent Court of Appeal ruling on its internal congresses will not disrupt its direct primary elections or the emergence of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the party also confirmed that it has begun the process of challenging the judgment at the Supreme Court, maintaining that the appellate court’s decision does not reflect the correct interpretation of the law.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC assured members and supporters that its preparations for the 2027 elections remain on track despite the ongoing legal dispute.

According to the party, the judgment relates only to the conduct of ward, local government and state executive congresses and has no bearing on the direct primaries through which its candidates were nominated.
The ADC stressed that its candidates at all levels emerged through a valid process conducted in line with the party’s constitution and relevant electoral regulations.
The opposition party said it disagrees with the Court of Appeal’s ruling and has taken immediate steps to seek a final determination at the Supreme Court.
It also expressed support for the dissenting opinion delivered by the presiding justice, arguing that it aligns more closely with established legal principles and the party’s position.

The ADC urged its members to remain calm and focused, assuring them that the legal challenge would not derail its political agenda or commitment to offering Nigerians an alternative platform ahead of the next general election.
The party reaffirmed its determination to pursue its objectives within the framework of the Constitution and the rule of law.
The latest court ruling is part of a series of legal battles over the ADC’s leadership and congresses as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 elections.
The party also dismissed claims by a rival faction regarding candidate submissions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that the electoral body has continued to recognise the National Executive Committee led by Senator David Mark.
