- 3 Parties Miss INEC Deadline To Submit 2027 Presidential Candidates
- INEC closed its candidate nomination portal at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.
- The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Three political parties have failed to submit the names of their presidential and vice presidential candidates before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general election.
According to an INEC official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly on the matter, the affected parties are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Nyesom Wike, and the Labour Party (LP) faction led by Nenadi Usman.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the official disclosed that while nearly all registered political parties successfully completed the nomination process, the three parties had yet to upload the details of their presidential tickets before the portal closed.
“As of now, only about three political parties are yet to upload the names of their presidential and running mate candidates. They are APGA, the PDP (Wike faction) and the LP (Nenadi faction). Virtually every other party has filed its candidates,” the official said.
INEC had earlier extended the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates from Saturday, July 11, to Tuesday, July 14, with the portal closing at 11:59 p.m.
The electoral commission explained that the extension followed appeals from political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates within the initial timeframe.
However, INEC maintained that the July 14 deadline was final and warned that no further extension would be granted.

Despite the extension, the three political parties were reportedly unable to complete the submission of their presidential and vice presidential candidates before the portal closed.
The INEC official added that virtually all other registered political parties had successfully uploaded the names of their candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Nigeria’s next presidential election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027.
