The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a man, Jacob Irewa, for allegedly setting his wife, Berida Irawo, on fire during a domestic disagreement in Lokoja.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident reportedly occurred at about 8:30pm on Friday at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the police, operatives of the B Division Surveillance Team in Felele were alerted to the incident and immediately moved to the scene, where they arrested the suspect.
The command said preliminary investigation indicated that the disagreement started after the victim allegedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes without his permission, believing that he was no longer using them.
The police alleged that Irewa became angry, threatened his wife, obtained petrol from his motorcycle and allegedly set her ablaze.

The command said the suspect admitted during preliminary questioning that he had set his wife on fire.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, condemned the incident and reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for violence, particularly domestic violence.
He urged members of the public to resolve domestic disagreements through lawful means and avoid actions capable of endangering lives.
The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing and the suspect would be charged to court upon its completion.
