Gbadegesin said LAWMA was strengthening waste collection, resource recovery and recycling while exploring innovative ways to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and unlock the economic value of discarded materials.
He highlighted the planned development of Material Recovery Facilities, MRFs, at strategic locations including Badagry and Agbowa, saying the facilities would strengthen waste sorting, recycling and resource recovery while creating economic opportunities within the waste management value chain.
The LAWMA boss also identified the LAWMA Academy as a key platform for developing environmental consciousness among children and young people.

According to him, the academy provides participants with practical knowledge of waste management, recycling and sustainable living while encouraging them to view waste as a resource that can be converted into useful products and wealth.
Gbadegesin showcased products created by LAWMA Academy interns from recyclable materials, noting that their work demonstrated the potential of recycling to promote creativity, entrepreneurship and environmental responsibility among young people.
He welcomed the clubs’ interest in supporting LAWMA’s environmental agenda, stressing that achieving sustainable waste management required collaboration among government agencies, private organisations, civil society groups, youth organisations and residents.
The visiting representatives, led by the President of Achiever Leo Club, Agboola Yussuf, and Vice President of Rotaract Club of Ikoyi, Olayori Fawaz, commended LAWMA for its efforts to promote responsible waste disposal, recycling and environmental sustainability.
They expressed readiness to collaborate with the authority on initiatives aimed at raising environmental awareness and contributing to a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
