The presentation of cheques took place in Osogbo, where the state’s Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, represented the governor.
According to the state government, the approved sum was shared between state and local government beneficiaries. While ₦125,631,083.45 was allocated to families of deceased workers at the state level, ₦78,644,126.35 was released for beneficiaries within the local government service.

The administration said the payment underscores its commitment to improving the welfare of workers, retirees and the families of employees who died in active service.
Speaking through the Head of Service, Adeleke reaffirmed that workers’ welfare remains a top priority of his administration despite economic challenges facing the state.
He noted that supporting public servants and pensioners forms a key component of his government’s development agenda and pledged to sustain policies aimed at improving their well-being.
The governor stated that although some critics doubted the feasibility of the administration’s promises on workers’ welfare, his government has continued to demonstrate commitment through concrete actions.
Adeleke revealed that since assuming office in 2023, the state government has paid a cumulative ₦882.75 million in death benefits to 184 beneficiaries across the public service.

He explained that the payments were part of efforts to clear inherited obligations and ease the financial burden on families who lost loved ones while serving the state.
The governor also disclosed that his administration had released over ₦1.86 billion under the Personal Accident Insurance Scheme to settle outstanding claims involving 563 beneficiaries.
According to him, the payments covered claims accumulated between September 2013 and August 2023.
Highlighting the importance of the insurance programme, Adeleke said the Group Life Assurance Policy under the Contributory Pension Scheme was established to provide financial support to families of workers who die in active service.

He stressed that public servants who dedicated their lives to serving the state deserve to have their families protected after their passing.
The governor further criticised past handling of death benefit and insurance obligations, alleging that outstanding claims were neglected for years and that irregularities affected the management of insurance premiums.
He assured workers and retirees that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and ensure the prompt payment of legitimate entitlements.
