EKO HOT BLOG reports that the 34-year-old has not fought since defeating Jake Paul by stoppage in six rounds in Miami on December 19. Shortly after the bout, his career was thrown into uncertainty following a crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which led to the deaths of his personal trainer, Kevin Ayodele, and recovery therapist, Sina Ghami.
Joshua survived the incident and spent recent months recovering while mourning the loss of his associates.
He gradually returned to training at the Finchley Amateur Boxing Club, where his career began, before rejoining coach Iegor Golub. Golub previously worked with Joshua during his victory over Paul and joined his team after the boxer parted ways with Ben Davison following his defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said preparations for Joshua’s return are progressing well, expressing confidence in his physical and mental readiness.
“We are very close to returning to training camp, and I feel like AJ is physically and perhaps mentally ready to throw himself back into that environment,” Hearn said.
“It is exciting. For everything that he has been through and all the pain, I do not think that will leave. But he has a career and a job to do, which he wants to continue doing. And I am excited to see him back.”
A comeback fight is being planned for July after an earlier March date in Saudi Arabia was postponed following the crash.
Attention is also turning to a possible high-profile bout with Tyson Fury later in the year, with reports indicating that discussions are progressing.

Fury is expected to return to action on April 11 against Arslanbek Makhmudov, as the heavyweight division builds toward a busy second half of the year.
