Cook, who joined Apple in 1998 and served as the architect of its global supply chain before becoming CEO, stated that leading the company has been the “greatest privilege” of his life.
Under his tenure, Apple’s market valuation soared from under $400 billion to approximately $4 trillion, solidifying its dominance in the global smartphone and consumer electronics markets.
John Ternus, the incoming CEO, is a familiar face within Apple’s leadership. Having joined the product design team in 2001, Ternus has been a central figure in the hardware engineering of the iPhone, iPad, and the transition to Apple Silicon (M-series chips).
“I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity,” Ternus said, acknowledging both Steve Jobs and Tim Cook as his mentors.

His appointment signals a “product-first” strategy as Apple enters its 50th year, facing the dual challenges of artificial intelligence integration and evolving global hardware competition.
The transition coincides with Apple’s 50th anniversary. Outgoing board chairman Arthur Levinson praised Cook’s “unprecedented leadership,” noting that his values remain infused in everything the company creates.
As Cook moves to the role of Executive Chairman, he is expected to remain involved in long-term strategic initiatives and the company’s environmental and privacy advocacy
