The Nigerian Army has dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering operation in Orile, Lagos State, arresting six suspects during an intelligence-led raid.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the operation was carried out by troops of the 65 Battalion on July 16, 2026, following credible intelligence on the activities of individuals allegedly involved in the illegal petroleum trade.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, said the troops acted swiftly on the intelligence by launching a targeted operation at the suspected site.
According to him, the raid led to the arrest of six suspects believed to be involved in the illegal bunkering business.
Yahaya said troops recovered four drums, two of which contained suspected illegally refined petroleum products. A white Ford bus and a tanker allegedly used to support the illicit operation were also seized.
He added that the suspects and the recovered exhibits had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, described the successful operation as another milestone in the military’s efforts to protect critical national assets and combat economic sabotage.
He said the operation demonstrated the division’s commitment to denying criminal elements the freedom to operate within its area of responsibility.
Babalola urged troops to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations and appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support the fight against economic crimes.
