Artillery Shelling and Airstrikes Kill 56 in Sudan
- At least 56 killed, 158 wounded in artillery and airstrike attack on Omdurman’s vegetable market.

At least 56 people have died in Sudan following artillery shelling and air strikes on a vegetable market in Omdurman.
The Health Ministry reported that more than 150 others were injured in the attack, which was attributed to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Khalid al-Aleisir, Sudan’s minister of culture and government spokesperson, condemned the assault, emphasizing that many of the casualties were women and children.

He described the attack as causing widespread devastation and as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
Witnesses stated that the shelling originated from western Omdurman, an area under RSF control, and was supported by drone strikes.
One resident described rockets and artillery shells raining down on multiple streets, with many of the shells hitting the vegetable market, causing numerous casualties.
Staff at nearby al-Nao Hospital reported being overwhelmed by the number of wounded victims, many of whom continued to arrive at the facility.
Volunteers called for urgent supplies, including shrouds, blood donors, and stretchers to help treat the injured.
In a separate attack in Khartoum, two civilians were killed and dozens injured following an airstrike on an RSF-controlled area.
The local Emergency Response Room (ERR) said the situation is dire, with civilian casualties continuing to rise across the country.
Since the outbreak of war in April 2023 between Sudan’s army and the RSF over force integration, the conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions, driving half of the population into hunger.

The attack follows a statement from RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who vowed to recapture Khartoum from the army.
Despite efforts to push the RSF to the outskirts of the capital, the war has left neighbourhoods in ruins and displaced millions.
According to the UN, over 3.6 million people have fled Khartoum, while more than 106,000 are facing famine in the city, and an additional 3.2 million are experiencing critical levels of hunger.
