Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has denied reports suggesting that he plans to abandon his presidential ambition in favor of another candidate.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the speculation followed his recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service, where he was quoted as expressing readiness to step aside for a younger and more acceptable aspirant under the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a swift response, Atiku, through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, dismissed the claims, describing them as a misrepresentation of his comments.
After carefully reviewing both the video and transcripts of the interview, in the original Hausa and English translations, it is clear that at no point did the former Vice President say, suggest, or imply that he would step down for anyone,” the statement read.

According to Ibe, Atiku only emphasized that young people and other aspirants are welcome to join the race, adding that if a young candidate were to win a competitive primary, he would support such a person wholeheartedly
He criticized attempts to twist the interview, warning that interpretative journalism must not be stretched into mischief.
“For the record, the insinuations credited to Waziri Adamawa are inaccurate and do not reflect his actual words,” the statement concluded.
