Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he feels “perfectly safe” in Nigeria, dismissing negative international reports about the country’s security situation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Johnson stated this on Thursday in Owerri during the Imo State Economic Summit 2025, where he commended the atmosphere of safety at the event and across the state.

“Before coming to Owerri, I read some things suggesting there might be security problems in Nigeria,” he told participants. “But I decided to come anyway. Let me ask you , do you feel safe here today? Yes, we all feel safe. And I feel perfectly safe. Thank you, Governor, for what you are doing.”

The former UK leader also praised Governor Hope Uzodimma’s efforts to boost the state’s economic fortunes, particularly his drive to ensure round-the-clock electricity for residents.
Johnson noted that artificial intelligence would play a significant role in supporting the governor’s development agenda, describing AI as a powerful tool for future economic transformation.
