EKO HOT BLOG reports that the court had ruled that the PDP National Convention conducted in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, was invalid. It also barred members of the Turaki led National Working Committee from presenting themselves as national officers of the party.
In its judgement delivered on Friday, the court held that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised leadership of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid national convention.
Reacting to the ruling, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the party was not alarmed by the decision and had already activated legal steps to challenge it.
In a statement, Ememobong said the court declined to grant the order of mandamus sought, on the grounds that doing so would amount to sitting on appeal over judgments of courts of coordinate jurisdiction.
“We are aware of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, delivered this morning, which essentially declined to grant the order of mandamus sought on the ground that doing so would, in the court’s view, amount to sitting on appeal over judgments of courts of coordinate jurisdiction,” the statement said.
He added that the party’s legal team has been instructed to immediately file an appeal and take all necessary steps to protect the position of the Turaki led leadership.
“We have accordingly briefed our lawyers to immediately file an appeal and to take all further legal steps necessary to advance our arguments and firmly protect our position on this matter,” Ememobong said.
According to him, the Kabiru Turaki led PDP that emerged from the Ibadan convention remains legally intact while awaiting a final determination from the appellate courts.
He urged party members to remain calm and committed, insisting there was no cause for alarm, and described the ongoing internal struggle as part of the party’s rebirth process.
