A century of peaceful coexistence in the Alwasa community was shattered on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as a minor disagreement between Hausa and Fulani youths spiraled into a deadly confrontation.
Eko Hot Blog reports that talks from the locals indicate that the dispute began over reckless motorcycle riding, but tensions reached a breaking point when a Fulani youth allegedly stabbed a Hausa youth during the altercation.

The subsequent flight of the suspect prompted a wave of reprisal attacks by Hausa youths against a nearby Fulani settlement.
Argungu Local Government Chairman, Sani Gulma, confirmed the tragic toll, noting that many of those killed were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
“After the suspect ran away, some Hausa youths launched a reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement, leading to the death of two persons and the displacement of many,” Gulma stated, emphasizing that the victims paid the ultimate price for a conflict they were not directly involved in.
The violence has forced a significant number of residents to flee their homes, seeking refuge as security forces move in to stabilize the area.

Governor Nasir Idris, while assessing the damage in Alwasa, condemned the breakdown of order and stressed that the state would not allow a few individuals to destroy the long-standing harmony between the Hausa and Fulani communities.
“Alwasa has enjoyed over 100 years of peaceful coexistence. We will not allow this harmony to be disrupted,” the governor declared.
In addition to the ₦2 million relief fund for the families of the deceased, security agencies have been placed on high alert to prevent further retaliatory strikes and to track down the primary suspect.
