EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi confirmed that he would contest the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence in his capacity and qualifications to lead the country effectively.
“I am contesting, and I am sure I will be on the ballot. People will have to look at who is competing, who has the capacity, who has everything,” Obi said. “I think I am qualified; I have the capacity to do the job. I will say it over and over again that, in four years, I can change the trajectory of Nigeria to a positive one.”
Obi, who ran for president in 2023 under the Labour Party, however, declined to confirm the political platform he would use in the 2027 race. He noted that while he remains a member of the Labour Party, he is also working with other opposition groups to rescue Nigeria from what he described as poor leadership.
When asked about speculations linking him to a possible return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obi said his priority is national development rather than political alignment.
He explained that his goal is to unite like-minded Nigerians across party lines to create a credible alternative that can address the country’s challenges.
“All of us are going to come together as a people. That is my belief — that for us to do the right thing for the country, all well-meaning Nigerians must come together now to rescue the country,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor reaffirmed his commitment to good governance, accountability, and youth empowerment, adding that his 2027 campaign would be focused on restoring hope, economic growth, and national unity.
