EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army described the report as misleading and a misrepresentation of facts surrounding the COAS’s recent operational visit to the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army at the Port Harcourt Barracks.
According to the statement, Lieutenant General Shaibu did not raise any alarm over pipeline vandalism during the visit, contrary to claims published by an online platform. The Army insisted that the report was malicious and intended to misinform the public.
Clarifying the purpose of the visit, the Army said the COAS addressed troops on Friday, January 9, 2026, where he emphasised the importance of protecting critical national infrastructure and maintaining discipline, commitment and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Shaibu assured personnel that their welfare remained a top priority, noting that immediate steps had been taken to address some of the challenges raised by commanders. These include the approval of additional accommodation projects, renovation of existing quarters and completion of ongoing infrastructure works within the division.
He also stressed the need for quality education for soldiers’ children and encouraged troops to remain focused on their operational responsibilities while listening to guidance from their officers.
While speaking with journalists during the visit, the Army Chief explained that his tour of divisions across the country was aimed at assessing combat readiness, interacting with officers and men, and identifying operational challenges for prompt resolution.
The Army further stated that security indicators in the Niger Delta showed commendable progress in curbing oil theft and pipeline vandalism, adding that sustained military efforts have supported stability and improved exploration activities in the oil and gas sector.

Members of the public were urged to disregard reports aimed at undermining security efforts and to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations.
